Cohen and Cohen is a boutique law firm with a practice concentrating on intellectual property, chiefly copyright law, but extending to such closely-related doctrines as the law of trademark and unfair competition, unfair business practices, and the right of publicity.

        The firm concentrates on the music publishing and recording industries, yet it has been involved in copyright and trademark disputes that have arisen in the context of such diverse areas as photography, graphic arts, fashion, and motion pictures.

        In the music business, the firm has represented clients with contractual disputes as well as intellectual property matters. The majority of the firm’s clients are songwriters, music publishers, recording artists, record producers, record companies, and musicians. Clients have also included heirs (surviving spouses and children) of songwriters and recording artists.

        Although the firm primarily handles litigation, it nevertheless is actively involved in transactional matters. It administers catalogs for a sizeable number of music publishers. The firm also serves as local counsel or consultant to lawyers outside California or lawyers anywhere needing expertise in the firm’s practice area.
